Bria Brumfield is a senior at Howard University, in Washington DC., where her current major is health management. Bria also serves as the current community service coordinator for the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences. Bria’s burning passion to help the youth of our city began when she was thrust into mentoring a group of children whose ages ranged from 10-14. The program is geared towards African American and Latino students from all over the city of Chicago. As a mentor, Bria works closely with these students by attending science and math workshops, talking regularly, giving advice and even going on a weeklong trip every summer. In reflection of her time spent with the children, she realized that the students she mentored were not troubled they just required some guidance. After all, in order for you to do better - you have to know what better is. Bria knows that The Power of YOUth is necessity in the city of Chicago and looks forward to giving her all to see to the success of the program.

Chelsea Brumfield is a Resource Navigator with Community Health Solutions in Chicago, IL, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She has always had a passion for helping youth.  As the oldest sibling in a family of five, the importance of being a role model has been instilled in her for many years. Her experience in human services and non profit settings drive her passion for cultivating a better future for all. By focusing on children and the importance of positive role models to the development of character, she believes many lives can be changed. With the The Power of YOUth, Inc. Chelsea hopes to eliminate many of the issues that place barriers in the lives of youth and will strive to see that youth succeeds. Seeing Black excellence will inspire Black excellence.

Korla Brumfield is a senior, Business and Marketing student at DePaul University in Chicago, IL. She has always had burning desire and passion to inspire the youth. She began as a tutor and mentor for the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program focusing on high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors.  Through that experience she got to see those students transform into successful young adults. With The Power of YOUth, Inc., Korla hopes to continue leading and inspiring the youth be successful. There is a popular phrase, “you have to be TWICE as good,” Korla believes that resounding truth echoes and speaks volumes for African American youth. She is here to let it be known that we have not forgotten about our youth, someone cares about their future. Whether someone aspires to attain a PhD or build a brand and become the CEO of their own company, Korla intends to provide the foundation to help them reach their dreams. 

Dustin Brumfield is a sophomore, African American Studies major student at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA. Family, Community, and always onward and upward are the three principals Dustin stand on. With a passion for the true education of history. He is extremely passionate about education and tailoring it to young black males and females. His high school career at the all male public institution, Urban Prep Academy in Chicago, Il., with it's continuous 100% acceptance of the senior class to 4 year colleges and universities, instilled in him the fact that education is the most important thing to the next generation of youth. The Power Of YOUth, Inc. is aimed to help guide this message into everything we do. Dustin plans to return to Chicago after finishing college to become a teacher, and obtain a Ph.D in African American Studies.

Lynda Hodge
Richard Hodge III

Lynda Hodge is a sophomore, Public Relations and Marketing student at Howard University in Washington, D.C. She lives to be God’s instrument. Her belief in Black Excellence has driven her to live a life dedicated to opening the eyes of Black youth. This drive came after spending much time in Chicago Public Elementary Schools and realizing that, somewhere in the system, our youth have been failed. She has since decided to be the change she wants to see in the world. She stands firm on her opinion that we all are here for a reason, on a particular path; many of us just need someone to help guide us there. Lynda plans to instill hope, faith, motivation, and drive into the lives of every person who matriculates through the various programs The Power of YOUth, Inc. will offer. Not one soul will leave without knowing the power that lies within, “To be it, one must believe it”. Her dream is to leave the footprints of The Power of YOUth, Inc. embedded in hearts and minds of everyone it reaches; while being a moving force nationwide.

Richard Hodge, III, is a senior Business Administration major with a concentration in Accounting at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA. Since relocating to Atlanta for school, Richard has not lost his passion for helping today’s youth. While mentoring younger students in Atlanta, Richard realized his passion did not have end in Atlanta. His passion can transcend state lines and he can better the youth in both Chicago and Atlanta. Richard believes seeing a positive male role model is all many youth need and he has no doubt that he can be that and more. 

Morgen McDonald

Morgen McDonald is a freshman majoring in Elementary Education with a concentration in Science at Grand Canyon University in Buckeye, AZ. When asked about her passions; youth, faith and family effortlessly came to mind. “I want to help our next generation reach and use the full power and potential inside of them.”At the age of 20, she began to live her dream of helping children by working as a teacher’s assistant at Sundance Elementary School Monday through Friday. Although her call time was 7:30 through 3:30, Morgen always dedicated extra hours before and after school, “just to be helpful” as she would say. With a vivid vision in mind, Morgen’s main goal remains as such: to continue to emphasize and and create awareness of our youth’s talents by opening a public faith-based, liberal arts school in honor of her parents.

Melanie Melvin is a junior at The University of Missouri- Columbia where she is majoring in Biological Science. She has always had the desire to impact children’s lives in positive ways. Power of YOUth, Inc. will allow her to interact with children and use her skills to fulfill her passion of helping children who are in need; additionally, it will allow her to continue to motivate and empower those who are not. She plans to encourage youth to be the best that they can be, while teaching them the power that they possess to succeed. By being apart of The Power of YOUth, Inc., Melanie feels she can make a difference in many children’s lives due to her ability to build relationships and encourage children who need a push of confidence. Melanie believes it is important that children are aware of the truth in the familiar quote, "Knowledge is power". Through The Power of YOUth, Inc., they will understand the importance of higher education and gain valuable life skills.
